Location: Fairport, NY – Hybrid | Employment Type: Full Time
About the Role
As a Robotics Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and deploy software that powers advanced robotic systems. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to build and integrate algorithms, sensors, and control systems that improve system performance, autonomy, and reliability. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving hard, real-world problems at the intersection of robotics and perception.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Develop and deploy real-time perception systems on NVIDIA Jetson edge devices using computer vision and multi-sensor fusion
- Build and own visual-inertial odometry (VIO) and SLAM pipelines, including end-to-end mapping systems
- Integrate IMU data, manage multi-rate sensor fusion, and ensure accurate sensor synchronization across modalities
- Establish SLAM systems that interface directly with perception outputs (3D detections, depth, ego-frame understanding)
- Optimize deep learning models for edge deployment using TensorRT and GPU acceleration techniques
- Design and implement autonomous perception algorithms for real-time perception and decision-making systems.
- Develop and optimize ADAS features supporting vehicle safety and driver assistance capabilities.
- Design scalable data pipelines supporting ML training and multi-sensor data workflows
- Own the end-to-end data engine: ingestion, storage, versioning, annotation flow, and quality validation
- Translate product requirements into robust autonomy and robotics software implementations
- Apply ML/DL techniques, including CNNs, to perception and autonomy challenges
- Use Python, C++, ROS1/ROS2, OpenCV, PyTorch, and MATLAB in production systems
Role Level & Scope
- Individual contributor role
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
- Experience building software for robotics, autonomy, or embedded systems
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non- technical stakeholders
- Strong familiarity with sensor integration and multi-sensor data processing (camera, LiDAR, IMU, radar, etc.)
- Exposure to thermal imaging or infrared sensing systems
- Experience with real-time or edge computing systems
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, with strong C++ for latency-critical SLAM
- Hands-on VIO/SLAM development with a modern framework (e.g., VINS-Mono/Fusion, ORB-SLAM3) and the underlying state estimation (factor graphs, manifold optimization)
- Experience with IMU pre-integration, camera–IMU calibration, and multi-sensor time synchronization
Preferred
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, NumPy, and related ML/CV libraries
- Hands-on experience with camera-based imaging systems in robotics or embedded platforms
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment.
- Strong background in sensor fusion and multi-modal perception systems
- Experience with ROS1/ROS2-based robotics development
- Familiarity with GPU acceleration and image processing optimization
- Experience operating in cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams
- 5+ years of software development experience in robotics, autonomy, or related domains
- Understanding of failure modes (degenerate motion, low-texture environments, thermal-only fallback cases)
- Experience working in GPS-denied or degraded environments (strong plus)
- Familiarity with SLAM/odometry evaluation metrics (ATE/RPE) and benchmarking on standard datasets
Compensation Range
$100k – $140k annually, based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location, plus applicable benefits.
